How to become a Christian?
I have typed out some basics concerning having a relationship with God. I did not copy and paste from any other resource although there is plenty on the internet—easy. Just search on, "How to become a Christian?"
Truth 1
Know that God created you in His image with the ability to know and experience Him. It has been the plan of God from your very birth that you would reach out and discover Him. He has been reaching out to you in many ways already trying to get your attention. It is His greatest desire that you know Him and have relationship with Him.
And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent—John 17:3
Truth 2
Sin (breaking God's law of love) will always separate you from God because God is holy. Sin is breaking God's law ie: stealing, cursing, adultery, lying, fornication, getting drunk, idolatry, dishonoring parents, etc. The Bible teaches us that all men have sinned and that the wages of sin is eternal separation from God.
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God—Romans 3:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord—Romans 6:23
Truth 3
God send His Son to give His life on the Cross, the Just for the unjust–to be an atonement for our sins. Jesus is the Advocate, The Way, The Bridge. He died and rose again and is at the right hand of the Father today. He will return for all true believers some day.
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me—John 14:6
What we must do # 1
Since it is not God's will that any perish but that all would come to repentance, that is exactly what you must do: Repent. This means to change your mind, change your thinking, change your priorities and sin no more. To call upon the name of the LORD
Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord—Acts 3:19
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved—Romans 10:13
What we must do # 2
We must confess our sins to God, and ask forgiveness for all that we have done. He will forgive us and give us another chance to live for Him. We will become new creatures. Our old life will pass and our new life will come. We will have fresh start—we will be born again spiritually.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness—1 John 1:9
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new—2 Corinthians 5:17
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God—John 3:3
What we must do # 3
Follow Jesus. Be His disciple. Learn of Him. Continue to surrender. Obey Jesus. Get baptized. Study your Bible. Pray. Go to church. Fellowship with other Christians. Tell others what God has done for you. Lead other people to repentance, and forgiveness in Christ.
And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men—Matthew 4:19
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works—2 Timothy 3:16-17
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching—Hebrews 10:25
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature—Mark 16:15
